Longitudinal Regional Strain vs Inward Displacement for estimating regional wall motion

The main difference is that in general, regional Inward Displacement (InwD) measures directly the segmental contribution related to reduction of left ventricular cavity volume, while regional longitudinal strain is related to segmental shortening.

InwD aims to quantitatively confirm the visual inward motion, as illustrated in the video, which provides additional evidence to a more intuitive way to diagnose regional dysfunction.

Next week we will present a case in which InwD is well suited to identify ischemic regions with reduced contraction.
